INTERNET IN OUR LIVES

Although internet looks like to benefit us in terms of reaching information, doing it easily and for education; it also being used for dangerous purposes, revealing private personal informations and having psychological badly effects on people.
First of all, some people use internet for dangerous purposes like trying to get some vital passwords of banks, people’ accounts and etc. And some also try to cheat people. For instance; they show themselves as salesman, but they are just deceitful. They cheat people and take their money. In my opinion, this is a big problem to deal with. It is hard to arrest these people.
Second of all, it has some badly psychological effects on people, especially on children. Parents should be very careful to this point. Some children be addicted to computers and spend mostly their whole day in front of the screen. They play games, chat with people who mostly of them are liars. They believe them and when they realize that they are liars, live a big psychological traumas. I think, children have to take psychological counseling if they are addicted to computers.
Third of all, our personal informations are being reached by internet. As I mentioned before internet is not being used by good and right people. Some are trying to cheat people and we could be one of the victims. This is a hard solving problem, too. We should be very careful while using internet in financial purposes like doing transfers or checking our bank accounts. We should not give our passwords to anyone.
Those I mentioned above do not mean that we should not use internet too much and that internet has not got many positive effects to our lives. Today, lots of factories and companies make their deals and agreements by internet. It is being used in work, education and daily life. It makes easy to reach informations, to talk with our relatives and etc. To sum up, internet has negative effects too besides it’ positive effects and so we should use it carefully.

THESIS STATEMENT

Although internet looks like to benefit us in terms of reaching information, doing it easily and for education; it also being used for dangerous purposes, revealing private personal informations and having psychological badly effects on people.

FUNCTIONS OF TELEVISION
When a person enters a house full of average people,he/she can easily realize that all of the furniture in the room is directed to their television whether it is a living room,a bedroom,a kitchen etc.Because they see it as a tool of their lives.Sometimes it is a friend babysitting their child,a sister/brother full of gossip,a teacher informing them about everything they have in their minds and their parents telling fairy tales.As a result, common people treat tehir televisions like it can fulfill their lives.In fact, television provides people with two functions;namely being informative and entertaining.
To begin with,television informs audiences.Firstly,it enables people to get news which is the most coomon reason why people watch TV.It is clear that news in the mornings,afternoons and in the evenings give information about political issues,world affairs and latest developments in the world.For example,when the latest development become about the “Iraq and ABD war”,it is enough to turn on TV for learning immediately.It forms public opinion on different topics.Thanks to watching television,people develop different perspectives about an event.Secondly,debate programs are the other informative programs.For example,”Siyaset Meydanı” and “Ceviz Kabuğu”are a few of them.They create an ambience sharing opinions comfortably about an current event.These programs tell them people have lots of different opinions on an issue.They change and improve opinions.Thirdly,another informative program that students can benefit from,is distance learning programs.They make graduating possible at home for poor students and students who could not enter a university.Lastly,lots of people’s choice on TV is competitions and quiz shows informing people.Nowadays,audiences like these programs because of more educative than news.They not only raise the cultural level of people,but also encourage people to study and learn.
Another function of TV is that it provides entertainment.Firstly, reailty shows entertain them.It is known that they show a group of people’s actions regulated by special rules.Actually,it is a competition,but like the other quiz shows,they do not inform and educate.They only entertain people.People watch them just for fun and curiosity.The other type of entertainment program is music programs.These programs tell the latest news about favourite singers and give the musical videos all day for music lovers.Therefore,most teenagers follow these programs for their own interests.Cartoons,which are another type of entertainment shows as well,entertain not only children but also adults.They can do babysitting and make children happy.Most parents think, at the present time, that entertaining them is very important problem.Thanks to these programs,this is not a problem anymore for parents.Today,cartoons,in other words animations,can entertain adults such as “South Park”,”Family Guy” and “Simpsons”.These programs make them forget all issues.
As a consequence, people choose watching TV and benefitting from its functions because of being entertaining or informative or both of them. Thanks to television technologies, some of the programs can inform audience and improve their minds. On the other hand, some of them can make their lives much more entertaining than used to have no TVs at home. Because of these functions , now, TV is one of the most important part in people’s lives. Nevertheless, it’s nothing compared to now with the future. After twenty or thirty years, TV is going to be the one and only one family union of their incredibly small world.

Changes in the Department

The place where a student gets education is really important. Because this place may make him/her to learn in an attractive way and make him/her to have more fun than usual. And so, this place should be comfortable, acquire technological devices and easy to reach. If I could change three important things about our department; I would change the classrooms, make the transportation the department easier and decorate the classrooms with more technological devices.

First of all, I would change the sitting plan in the classrooms. I would certainly make them amphitheaters. Thus, the rooms would be more systematic and cleaner. Because the seats would be from the top to the bottom, the people on the back could understand the lecture easier. They could see the blackboard and the teacher clearer. And this will lead to more accomplish I think. The second thing is the technological devices that we have. Every device that we have in the classrooms has a mistake. This leads to some problems during the lessons. We change the classroom or the teacher tries to fix it and this steals from our lecture time. This irritates the teacher also. For this reasons, if I had the chance I would develop the technologic systems in the classrooms. The last thing I would change will be the transportation to our department. When we have lectures afternoon, we have difficulties to return to our homes or dormitories because there are no busses after 5 o’clock and the lecture finishes at half past 5. For those whose houses are far, it becomes a hard problem. So, if I had the chance I would put busses especially for the department between the hours 5.30-5.45.

Consequently, if we change those things in our department, in my opinion, it would be more enjoyable and comfortable to attend the lectures.

Technology in Classes

In today’s world technology has a huge effect in daily life. Technology is being used in homes, offices, factories, restaurants and cafés and in lots of places. And lately it is being used in lectures. If I were asked about a lecture that has two sections; in one of them technology is being used and the other not I would prefer the first one. Because technology makes things easier and it is useful.

A lecture that being attended in a computer lab is more effective and attractive than another lecture. Technological devices and internet contribute the class in a positive way. First of all, we can save from our time. For instance; when we are asked to write an essay during the lesson, if each student has a computer, we can write it quicker or google the subject and collect informations about it. Thus, we can save from our time. If we were writing it with a pen and a paper we would have difficulties and spend more time on it. Secondly; if the teacher uses technology very often that means we can reach the lecture notes online and this means we can study the lecture easier. Any time we want, we can go online and see the notes and study. This also makes the learning attractive. We could not have this chance in a normal class.

Those I mentioned, doesn’t mean that a normal class is not effective. It also has its own features that you can’t see in a lab class. First of all, you will always have an eye-contact with the teacher. In a lab class you don’t have this because you are supposed to look in the monitor. I think eye-contact is efficient in learning. Secondly; if you are in a normal class, it is harder to have a concentration break. Because you can only focus on your papers or on the teacher. But if you have a lab class, you can search for or spend your time to irrelevant things during the lecture. And this may lead you to miss the lecture.

In conclusion, both of them have their own features and with an experienced teacher, both of them are an effective way to teach. But if I was asked, I would choose a lab class.
